For the second year running Michelmores has achieved "First Class" status in the 2008 Best Companies Guide organised by the Sunday Times and will also be appearing in the 'Top 100 Professional Firm to Work For' when the new survey is published this spring.
The firm is one of only 17 law practices nationwide to make it to the list and the only one from our region.
The exhaustive survey measures businesses against a variety of criteria based upon what employees really think.
These include leadership, personal growth, well being, how employees value their organisation, what they think of their managers and co-workers, if they think they are getting a fair deal and if the firm is putting something back into the society.
The year has seen some amazing results with 653 companies applying to achieve 'Star Status', a 33.5% increase on applications in 2007. 558 organisations made it through the process and since September over 140,000 employees from these organisations have been surveyed.
In total 307 organisations achieved 'Star Status' success;
Senior Partner Will Michelmore said: "I am delighted that the feedback received from the people working here has resulted in Michelmores being included in this survey. I believe it says a lot about the firm and the ethos we are all striving to achieve. It is also a reflection of everybody's contribution from top to bottom.
This will give us a detailed insight of what we are doing well and areas in which we can still improve and that's what we intend to do - improve for the benefit of all."
Some of the extremely positive comments the survey elicited anonymously from respondents helping is to achieve Star status included:
"The firm values, employees as individuals and not just numbers."
"It is a great working environment - new offices with good equipment / facilities / benefits. It is a friendly and sociable organisation. There is a keenness to do better so far as CSR is concerned."
"There is a buzz here that makes it a stimulating place to work with a strong tradition and pride in the service that is delivered."
"Very nice people, supportive of one another. Good ethos. Sense of humour. Understanding by most of senior management that people have lives outside work. Tolerance - almost encouragement - of slightly "alternative" people"
"The friendliness of the people, the support, team spirit, ability to progress within the firm."
"I think even though the firm has doubled in size in 5 years it still has a family feel about it. Most partners are more like staff members than "partners", there doesn't seem to be a big divide between partners and staff!" I feel valued as an employee and that I can make a difference here. There is no 'them and us' feeling from the support staff towards the management / partners."
There are too many positive responses to reprise here but a recurring them has certainly been – people, people and people!
