Quality of life

The South West, and Exeter in particular, is a great place to be a trainee. Exeter is a university city and the leading business centre west of Bristol. The city centre, which is in the process of a multi-million pound redevelopment, is a vibrant place for young professionals to meet. New bars and restaurants, opening as part of the Princesshay development, are evidence of the increased demand which has resulted from an influx of business to the region, most notably the recent relocation of the Met-Office to the City.

The City has an active Trainee Solicitors Group, Young Solicitors Group and the Exeter Young Business Club. Michelmores’ trainees have, in recent years, taken a leading role in the running of the Exeter TSG. In addition, the firm has sponsored the TSG Ball for both of the last two years.

Easy access to the moors and sea makes Exeter the perfect centre for someone looking for an excellent work/life balance. Outdoor activities feature highly on the interests of current trainees and other staff members and range from walking and cycling on Dartmoor, sailing and surfing in North Devon, to more extreme sports like kite-surfing!

Each department has an annual away day which usually exploits the firm’s great location. Recently, the days have included surfing; clay-pigeon shooting; archery; and karting on a beach in Cornwall.
