More than a career move

Structure of training

Each trainee is expected to spend six months in four different practice areas. As a trainee at Michelmores, we will encourage you to spend time in each of our different departments; however, we will treat you as an individual and work with you to tailor your training contract to suit your preferences alongside that of the business.

In each seat you will be allocated a designated supervisor who will support, encourage and supervise you during your seat with them.  Each trainee is also appointed a "buddy" to help to guide you through your training contract.  The buddies are usually either second year trainees or newly qualified solicitors.

A training contract is all about hands-on training and there is plenty of good quality and interesting work for you to experience.  We have a tailored comprehensive trainee development programme to equip you with the skills you need to develop a successful career.  This includes modules on financial and business awareness, making the most of a training contract, communication and people skills and marketing and networking.  Alongside this, we arrange courses to meet Solicitors Regulation Authority's requirements (such as the Professional Skills Course).

We encourage trainees to get a mixture of experience across our offices.  For trainees who join our Exeter office we encourage individuals to spend a period of their training contract in our London office.  The work and its balance will vary from seat to seat, but during your training you will run your own files, work in teams on bigger transactions and experience client contact on the phone and in meetings.
