We are passionate about training and developing all employees in the firm, so we can provide the highest service to clients, and so individuals can fulfil their ambitions.

Examples of development programmes and initiatives include:

  • Partner and manager training: a programme for any staff member responsible for managing or supervising others covering recruitment and selection, appraisal and performance management, coaching and review skills.
  • Diversity awareness programme: for all employees to understand the firm’s approach to equality and diversity and to encourage a positive working environment.

Associate development programme (ADP): a 2 year leadership programme providing opportunities for experienced lawyers to enhance their skills in areas such as people management, finance, client care, marketing, business awareness, recruitment and selection, coaching and strategic management. The programme gives each Associate access to on-going coaching within their department as well as providing each individual with a mentor.

The ADP is essential for the future growth of the firm in that this is the
pool from which future partners are selected.

Lawyer CPD Training

Mindful of the importance of keeping up to date with current case law, legislation, property procedures and thinking, we seek to provide training by adopting a variety of formats to ensure each individual’s training requirements are satisfied.

On a daily basis we receive direct to our desktops updates on property related matters from PLC.

On a monthly basis (barring August and December), we hold in-house workshops at which a member of the department or the firm in a related legal discipline discusses their specialist area of the law sharing the wealth of knowledge gleaned from their day to day transactional experiences, including those all important nuggets of information that never appear in the text books.

We have covered an array of topics including –

  • Investment Leases from an instructing surveyor's perspective - What is their bottom line?
  • Appointments and Collateral Warranties - why do we have these? What are their purpose? What are the implications of the clauses within the documents?
  • Overage - Why do we have this? How can sums be secured? What are the pitfalls? Development Agreements - the 10 key points
  • Lasting Powers of Attorney: The new law in practice.

Training is also delivered by members of the Department attending seminars and is delivered by colleagues to a wider audience by attendance at courses co-coordinated by course providers such as CLT, the Devon & Somerset Law Society, Hawkesmere and BPP (to name just a few).
